“No Shot!” Kevin Hart Says Oprah Should Never Be Roasted

Kevin Hart has survived plenty of jokes during his career. He has taken shots from fellow comedians, celebrities, and even close friends. Yet there is one person he believes should never step into the roast spotlight.

During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!“, Hart made it clear that Oprah Winfrey belongs in a category of her own. When Jimmy Kimmel suggested that Oprah could be a future subject of Netflix’s popular roast specials, Hart shut the idea down instantly. “There would be no way,” Hart said.

The comedian’s strong reaction has sparked conversation across social media and entertainment circles. Fans are now debating whether any celebrity should be considered completely off limits in the world of roast comedy.

Hart Compares Roasting Oprah to Defacing a Masterpiece

Oprah / IG / Roasting Oprah would be like “spray painting the Sistine Chapel,” the comedian extraordinaire said.

Jimmy Kimmel’s suggestion seemed harmless enough. Netflix roasts have become a major part of comedy culture, attracting huge audiences and generating endless online discussion. Oprah’s name naturally came up as a possible future candidate. Hart immediately rejected the idea.

He compared roasting Oprah Winfrey to “spray painting the Sistine Chapel,” a striking image that showed exactly how strongly he feels about protecting her reputation. For Hart, Oprah represents something bigger than celebrity status. She stands as a cultural icon whose impact reaches far beyond television.

“If I found out that Oprah said she wanted to do it, I’m driving 100 miles per hour to Oprah’s house. You cannot do this. No shot,” he joked.

Fresh From Surviving His Own Netflix Roast

Hart / IG / Hart’s comments carry extra weight because he recently experienced the roast treatment himself.

Just one month before appearing on Kimmel’s show, he was the center of “The Roast of Kevin Hart,” a three-hour Netflix special that streamed during the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. The event featured a lineup of comedians and celebrities who spent the evening taking aim at every aspect of Hart’s life and career.

Nothing was off limits. Hart’s height, career choices, friendships, family stories, and public controversies all became material. As the guest of honor, he knew the punches were coming and embraced the format.

That experience may be one reason he feels qualified to draw a distinction between celebrities who can handle a roast and cultural figures who simply should not be placed in that environment. Hart understands the appeal of roast comedy because he has lived through it firsthand.

Although Hart entered his Netflix roast prepared for almost anything, one moment genuinely surprised him. During the Kimmel interview, he revealed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson managed to land the night’s most unexpected hit. Johnson, one of Hart’s closest friends and longtime collaborators, displayed a photo of Hart’s late father, Henry Robert Witherspoon.

According to Hart, it was “the worst picture of my father I’ve ever seen.” The joke caught him completely off guard, something that rarely happens to a veteran comedian who has spent decades in the spotlight.

One of the most talked-about moments involved comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. A joke referencing George Floyd drew criticism from viewers who felt the subject crossed a line. The backlash quickly spread online, reigniting debates about what should and should not be acceptable in roast comedy.

“The George Floyd joke wasn’t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but our audience that’s watching the roast, if you’re watching the roast, you get why they’re doing it,” Hart explained.
